Hello there. If you require assistance with using the various commands on the Armageddon BBS file transfer menu, you have come to the right place. To make it easy for you, this tutorial is laid out exactly as you find the commands on the actual File Transfer Menu of the Armageddon BBS, as seen in the above image.
Your Global Commands
Control O = Displays the File Transfer Menu help menu, which is the same information that you find on this current web page.
O = Logs you off of the Armageddon BBS.
Q = Returns you to the Armageddon BBS Main Menu.
Y = Displays your personal transfer info such as the number and size of files you have uploaded and downloaded, etc.
? = Refreshes -- or redraws -- the File Transfer Menu.
T = Allows you to set your default transfer protocol, whether or not to do a Newscan of the transfer system after a Newscan of the message subs, whether to list extended descriptions and whether to search extended descriptions while using the "
F" command.
Your Transfer Commands
B = Displays a batch commands submenu for when you want to transfer multiple files simultaneously.
D = Initiates a file download from the current file directory. You may enter global filename characters -- such as "Herm" -- and each matching file will be displayed for download. If you do not wish to download it, hit the "
O" to bypass it or the "
Q" to quit.
U = Upload a file to the current directory. You will be prompted for the filename, a short description and an extended description [
10 lines maximum]. You can then select the transfer protocol and start the upload. A "
?" at that prompt will show all available protocols.
Z = Upload a file to the WordWeaver. This command works similar to the
U command, except that the file is automatically placed in my personal transfer directory, and is not accessible by other BBS visitors.
File Areas Organization
H = Lists all of the file areas and directories currently available on the Armageddon BBS.
J = Allows you to go to another file transfer area. The BBS will show you all of the available areas when you type the "
J". You must then enter the actual number of the area you wish to go to.
] or
[ = Advances you to the next higher or lower file area accordingly.
* = Lists all of the available directories in the current file transfer area.
# = Type an actual number to go to a specific file transfer directory.
< or
> = Advances you to the next higher or lower file directory. Typing either the symbols "
+" or "
-" will likewise work.
Files Search Options
N = Lists all new files since your last logon to the BBS. You will be prompted whether to list new files in the current directory or for the entire BBS.
P = If you wish to see all new files after a certain date, enter the starting date for the new file search. Then when you enter "
N" to scan new files, the date used will be the date you just entered rather than the date you last did a new file scan. When you enter the date, you must use two digits each for the month/day/year, such as "
03/20/15".
L = Lists matching files in the current file directory. You will be prompted for the full or partial filename, and can enter any part of a name, and the BBS will return all matching text in the filename. If you want to list all files in the directory, just hit your return key.
Spacebar = Aborts a text or file listing. If a high speed modem is being used, text may continue to be displayed on your screen until the modem's buffer has been emptied.
F = Search for matching text in the file
DESCRIPTIONS, and if selected from your Transfer Defaults, the extended descriptions as well. You will be prompted to enter the text that you want to find. You can enter a partial name, as the BBS will list all files that match the text, whether a full name or not.
S = Search for matching text in the file
NAMES in all directories. You will be prompted for the full or partial filename. You can enter any part of a name, and the BBS will return all matching text in the filename. If you want to list all matching files on the BBS, just hit your return key.
